Crozer Health First in Delaware County to Offer New Treatment for Patients with Sleep Apnea
Inspire Treatment Restores Freedom for Patients During the Night
Crozer Health is proud to offer the Inspire implant, a new treatment for patients with moderate to severe sleep apnea, a serious, potentially life-threatening condition. Crozer Health’s Surgery Center at Brinton Lake in Glen Mills is the first in Delaware County to offer these services.
Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder where a person stops breathing while sleeping because of a blocked airway. It has typically been treated with a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine. This new treatment helps patients who cannot tolerate their CPAP or are looking for an alternative to the bulky but necessary machine.
Treatment for sleep apnea is aimed at restoring regular nighttime breathing and relieving symptoms. Crozer Health’s specially trained physicians evaluate patients to see if this treatment option is right for them.
“This new treatment has high patient satisfaction ratings and is a real game-changer for people with sleep apnea,” said ear, nose, and throat surgeon Kenneth Briskin, M.D., FACS., who implants the device. “Clinically, this is a great alternative for patients struggling with a CPAP device.”
Studies show that over 80 percent of Inspire patients have improved compliance and decreased apnea hypopnea index, which is used to indicate the severity of sleep apnea.
“We are excited to add the Inspire implant to our offerings for patients,” said Crozer Health administrator Jenny Santiago. “We are committed to enhancing patients’ lives, and this new technology helps patients lead healthier, more active days and sleep better – it’s a win-win in my book.”
