A concussion is a jarring brain injury that is caused by a bump or blow to the head that causes headache, dizziness or any of the symptoms listed below. You do not need to have a loss of consciousness to have a concussion. Even though the bump or blow may seem mild, a concussion can be a serious medical problem.

Concussions in Sports

According to the Centers for Disease Control, emergency department visits for sports- and recreation-related traumatic brain injuries, including concussions, among children and adolescents increased by 60% during the past decade. For this reason, recognition, diagnosis, management and education are critical for helping young athletes with suspected concussion fully recover.

Crozer Health’s fellowship-trained sports medicine physicians provide comprehensive care for athletes who have suffered a concussion or head injury.
