Most breast problems are not a cause for alarm. However, when a woman finds a lump or has an abnormal mammogram, she wants to be seen by a specialist right away. Crozer Health offers the following diagnostic imaging services:

  • Breast MRI
  • Needle Localization with Sentinel Node Mapping
  • Ultrasound Imaging
  • Ultrasound Guided Breast Biopsy

Our imaging centers are accredited by the American College of Radiology, and Delaware County Memorial Hospital and Crozer-Chester Medical Center have both been named  Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence. All of our imaging facilities are staffed with board-certified radiologists, registered technologists and registered nurses.

Medical Oncology

Medical oncologists are involved in the care of most cancer patients, working closely with primary care physicians and other cancer specialists to provide primary cancer treatment, continuous follow-up, consultations, and help to create plans for cancer management.

Our medical oncologists use chemotherapy, immunotherapy and hormonal therapy, including targeted therapy and the use of growth inhibitors) to treat cancer.

If cancer is detected in your biopsy, your care will be transferred to the experienced team of physicians and medical professionals at one of our Regional Cancer Centers. Our cancer care teams offer comprehensive services for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and support care of patients.

The Crozer Regional Cancer Center has been approved by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons as a Comprehensive Teaching Hospital. It is also certified by the Association of Community Cancer Centers.

Radiation Oncology

Our radiation oncologists and their teams are skilled in both standard and advanced radiation therapy techniques, which can be used alone or in combination with other treatments.

The exact type of radiation used is determined by the cancer’s location, type, stage and treatment parameters. We offer both external beam therapies, such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), and internal radiation therapy, such as high- or low-dose-rate brachytherapy.

In addition, our radiation oncologists treat patients at Philadelphia CyberKnife in Havertown, the region’s most experienced robotic radiosurgery center.

Surgical Oncology

A surgical biopsy is often required to determine whether or not a person has breast cancer, and surgery is often the means by which a tumor is removed.

We are proud to offer the latest advanced cancer care procedures and technologies, such as minimally invasive surgeries, sentinel lymph node mapping and cryoablation.

Breast Reconstruction

With advances in breast reconstruction surgery, many women undergoing breast removal (mastectomy) choose to have their breast(s) rebuilt. Breast reconstruction involves creating a breast mound that comes as close as possible to the form and appearance of the natural breast.

The goal of reconstructive surgery is to create a breast mound that matches the opposite breast and to achieve symmetry. If both breasts have been removed, the goal of breast reconstructive surgery is to create both breast mounds about the size of the patient's natural breasts. The procedures requir the skills of two board-certified surgeons.

Oncoplastic Surgery

Oncoplastic surgery combines plastic surgery techniques with breast surgical oncology. When a lumpectomy or related surgery is required, that will leave the breast distorted; the remaining tissue is sculpted to realign the nipple and areola, restoring a natural appearance to the breast shape.

When oncoplastic techniques are used in breast surgery, it can have a dramatic positive effect on a patient’s psychological state and, in turn, may make the battle against cancer slightly more tolerable.

We use oncoplastic techniques in qualifying patients to perform lumpectomies, breast reductions (lifts), and contralateral symmetry procedures. We try to avoid performing a mastectomy whenever possible. If a mastectomy is needed, we offer numerous reconstruction options. We also perform surgery for patients with a genetic predisposition for breast cancer as well as many surgeries for benign breast conditions.
