Neonatology and Neonatal Intensive Care

Crozer Health ’s neonatology team, which includes neonatologists, pediatricians, neonatal nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists and social workers, has received advanced training in the care of premature and critically ill babies. We dedicate ourselves to caring for the smallest of our patients.

Neonatal Intensive Care

Neonatal intensive care refers to the specialized care and treatment of newborns who arrive prematurely or who are born with complications.

Generally, high-risk babies are those born before 37 weeks and/or those who weigh less than 2,500 grams (5½ pounds) at birth.

These babies may need help with breathing since their lungs are not yet fully developed. Others may need medical care for infections or heartbeat irregularities. Although an expectant mother anticipates a healthy delivery, she can be reassured that this medical experience is just across the hall from the Labor/Delivery/Recovery suites, ready 24 hours a day to respond to possible problems.

The Ultimate Care for Our Tiniest Patients

Advanced Testing Centers

Crozer Health is equipped to handle a wide range of high-risk infants.

Crozer Health offers our neonatology services through a Level III-A Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and a Level II-A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Delaware County Memorial Hospital. These neonatal intensive care units supply care for infants who are born prematurely or with complications.

Babies admitted to DCMH’s NICU and Crozer’s ICN receive state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care, which is individually tailored to each infant’s special needs. Crozer Health boasts two state-certified Intensive Care Nurseries:

Crozer’s Level III ICN holds the second-highest level of certification in Pennsylvania and is the only Level III nursery in Delaware County. The ICN is fully equipped to care for virtually all high-risk infants. Surrounding hospitals do not have these advanced qualifications.
